Community Recycling Centres are facilities where residents can drop-off unwanted items and materials for reuse and recycling. They are council-owned but run by community enterprises.
The aim is to reduce waste to landfill by reusing, re-purposing and recycling as much as possible, and to create local jobs and other community benefits in the process.
To help with this goal the centres have shops on site, which sell usable household and building materials.
Items the centres will accept include:
Run by Global Action Plan Oceania, a registered environmental charity, whose objective is to divert waste from landfill, providing sustainable new jobs and volunteering for the community. There is a shop on site with proceeds from the sale of reusable and upcycled goods invested back into the venture and the local community.
