Controlling your dog

Report a dog problem

If you need to report a dog problem urgently, call us on 0800 462 685.


Make a complaint

Contact us if you want to complain about dogs wandering, barking, fouling or being aggressive.

If you feel your complaint is urgent, call us on 0800 462 685.  

In response to your complaint we can:

  • give advice and information 
  • issue a warning 
  • issue an infringement notice 
  • classify a dog as menacing or dangerous 
  • classify an owner as probationary or disqualified 
  • revoke a Responsible Dog Owner Licence 
  • revoke a permit for multiple dogs 
  • issue a noise abatement notice for barking
  • seize a dog - including removing it from a property.

If you make a complaint, we will protect your identity.


Stray or impounded dogs

If you have found a dog, call us on 0800 462 685.

Animal welfare

If a dog owner is not providing their dog with:

  • proper care and attention
  • sufficient food, water and shelter
  • adequate exercise

this may be a case of animal cruelty.

If you are concerned about a dog's welfare, please contact us or the Auckland SPCA on 09 256 7300.
