Renew your dog registration

Details for the 2017-2018 dog registration period.

We sent out renewal notices and re-registration forms on Thursday 15 June 2017.

If you have not received your reminder notice by the end of June, contact us. We'll update your details and arrange to email you a copy.


Before you start

  • if your dog has passed away, let us know change your dog details
  • check you details on the reminder notice and form
  • if any of your details have changed, please amend the form and renew by post or in person
  • the early bird fee is available for payment on or before 1 August 2017
  • a convenience fee of 1.75 per cent is applied to all credit card transactions.

You will need

Check your dog's reference number

As your dog reference number may have changed this year.

  • your dog reference number, found on your re-registration form
  • your bank account number or
  • your Visa or MasterCard.

What happens next

  • your new dog tags will be sent out within 10 working days.
  • if you want to change your tag type (strap or disc), please contact us.

Return your completed and signed re-registration form, including payment to:

Cheque are to be made payable to Auckland Council.

Your new tags will be sent out within 10 working days of receipt of payment.

Contact us if you have not received your new dog tag within 10 working days.


Bring your completed re-registration form and payment to:

Alternatively at any branch of NZ PostShop or Kiwibank, provided:

  • your dog's details have not changed
  • the printed fee on your reminder notice has changed
  • contact us if you do not receive your new dog tag in 10 working days.


Dog registration renewal fee

Pay on or before 1 August to benefit from the early bird fee.

Registration period

Registration period runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year.

What happens next

We will send out your new dog tag within 10 working days, if you don't receive these contact us.

We will send you your renewal registration form in June next year.

Our tip

If you have been a registered dog owner in New Zealand for 12 months or more, you can apply for a Responsible Dog Owner Licence to lower your registration fees for next time.
