Hampton Park

Also known as Te Puke O Tara.

  • 334 East Tamaki Rd, East Tamaki
  • 19.5km - 17 minute drive from Downtown Auckland

This heritage site under restoration is not open to the public but there are guided ranger walk and talks. Situated on one of the last volcanic cones rising above the industrial roofs of East Tamaki, the park and neighbouring church land make up the remaining 13ha of a 160ha farm established by Reverend Gideon Smales in the late 1850s.

As a heritage site restoration has already begun, however more work is needed to conserve and enhance the area.

How to get there

From Downtown Auckland, take State Highway south and take exit 444 for East Tamaki Road. Turn left onto East Tamaki Road.

Amenities and activities

The historic stone church on the Gideon Smales church site property was built between 1859 and 1862 by the Rev Gideon Smales, a Wesleyan missionary and pioneer Auckland farmer.
