Michael Joseph Savage Memorial

Takaparawhau, also known as Whenua Rangatira, covers 49 hectares of harbour-edge land high above Tamaki Drive. A key feature is the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial, a tribute to the first Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand and the founder of the Welfare State. The park offers panoramic views over Whenua Rangatira, Auckland city and Waitemata Harbour. It is adjacent to the Ngati Whatua papakainga.


How to get there

From Downtown Auckland. take Hapimana Street, off Tamaki Drive between Orakei Wharf and Mission Bay. Michael Joseph Savage Memorial can also be accessed via a walkway from the western end of Mission Bay.
