Regional parks

Our regional parks offer a great range of walking tracks, including the self-guided, four-day Hillary Trail through 70km of native forest and along the wild coast of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park.

Heritage walks

We have a range of heritage walk leaflets featuring walking routes that guide you past heritage sites or historic interest points in each area.

Horse riding tracks

Enjoy the open space of our regional parks from horseback in one of our designated horse riding tracks.

Totara park also offers a public use shared bridle trail. The trail is mostly across open farmland on gentle rolling hills.

Central Auckland

Arch Hill Scenic Reserve

89 Ivanhoe Road, Grey Lynn

This is a scenic reserve with a walkway linking Ivanhoe Road, Great North Road and Bond Street. There are two mountain bike trails:

  • 'Training Wheels' is a beginner trail for families and riders of all ages.
  • 'Twist and Shout' is an intermediate trail for more advanced riders.
Waiheke Island
  • The Family Track (Katoa Iwi) is 2.2km long and a great learning trail. The trail starts at the car park by the corner of the football field at Onetangi Sports Park.
  • Round Rangihoua Loop Trail is the backbone trail for the Waiheke mountain bike trails.  It is an easy to intermediate ride with fantastic single track berms and flows.
